Add us on GoogleTaylor Farms, the company that sold lettuce that’s been linked to the cyclospora outbreak in the U.S., is facing another PR crisis as it’s had to recall a number of products containing jalapeño peppers due to a salmonella outbreak.
The agricultural giant’s recalled products include several salsa and guacamole prepackaged items, spiced cheese dips and diced jalapeños. Many of those were sold nationally in stores including Walmart, Target, Kroger and Whole Foods. The products were available, collectively, across 26 states.

The company said it has not received any reports of illnesses linked to the products being recalled.

Source identified
The Food and Drug Administration has linked the jalapeños causing the salmonella outbreak to a farmer in Sinaloa, Mexico that supplies to Coast Citrus Distributors. Taylor Fresh Foods, the division that made the products being recalled, said in a statement it no longer sources products from that farmer.
The recalled products were distributed to distribution centers in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Taylor Farms isn’t the only company affected by this recall. Chipotle and Qdoba also received products imported from Coast Citrus Distributors and both have since switched their supplier and are no longer serving the product. The FDA says there is no risk to consumers at these restaurants.
People infected with salmonella can expect symptoms that include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever beginning six hours after consumption. The illness can stretch from four to seven days, but most patients recover without needing medical treatment. Children younger than five, adults 65 and older and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe illness.
Taylor Farms has already had its lettuce products linked to the cyclospora (”explosive diarrhea”) outbreak. Last month, the company recalled all iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico that was identified as the potential source of one of the recent cyclospora outbreaks.
