First-generation Mexican immigrant influencer tearily surprised his dad with World Cup tickets — and flew him to Mexico City on the spot

Social media creator Jesús Morales — a first-generation Mexican immigrant — normally surprises street vendors and immigrant laborers with funds he raises from his 3 million followers.

But this week, he took to social media to video himself surprising his father at work at an autobody shop with an early Father’s Day present: two tickets to Mexico’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup versus South Africa in Mexico City Stadium.

Morales, who flew to his dad in Chicago from San Diego, told his father that they were leaving immediately, turning an ordinary workday into an afternoon neither of them will forget.

“I want you to know that this gift is very special to me,” Morales says in the video, handing his father a picture of him as a child. “I came to tell you that that little boy has tickets for the World Cup.”

Tearily, he continued, “We’re leaving right now, dad, I have your suitcase ready.”

From viral videos to real-world impact

The heartfelt moment quickly resonated with millions of viewers who have followed Morales’ journey from content creator to community advocate. The surprise reflects a theme that runs through much of Morales’ content: honoring the sacrifices of immigrant parents and working-class families.

The son of Mexican immigrants, Morales has spoken about watching his parents work long hours and struggle financially while raising their family. Those experiences later shaped the mission behind his social media presence.

“My dad worked multiple jobs and my mom was a server, and she would tell me that sometimes people would tip her pennies,” Morales said in a 2021 interview with Cal Matters.

Now, Morales raises money from followers and tips unsuspecting strangers hundreds and even thousands of dollars. He sometimes also surprises them with paid-off merchandise, vacations and other gifts. His videos frequently feature immigrants at work, as well as unhoused people and others in need.

Morales didn’t respond to Moneywise’s request for comment in time for publication to confirm how the trip was funded.

Why the World Cup surprise struck a chord

Morale’s World Cup video was especially personal because it flipped the script. Instead of surprising another stranger, Morales surprised the man whose work ethic inspired much of his own — and his platform’s philanthropy.

Major sporting events like the World Cup can be financially out of reach for many families. Ticket prices and travel expenses often make attendances financially infeasible, even for devoted fans. That reality has been a frequent point of discussion surrounding this year’s tournament.

Morales gave his father an experience many people dream about but never expect to happen. Followers left comments on the video, spreading even more kindness and joy.

“I know your dad is proud of you,” one follower wrote on Morales’ post, with another adding that “this right here is what life is all about.”

Others have added how much they wish they could do the same and give back to their own parents. While others have shared that they wish they could have made memories like this while their parents were still alive.

“As someone who’s father just passed away, cherish these moments,” one follower wrote, with another agreeing that, if their father was still here, they’d have “done something like this” if they could have.

The Mexico City match made for an especially sentimental memory because Mexico striker Raúl Jiménez, whose father also recently passed away, scored his first-ever World Cup goal, securing a 2-0 victory for Mexico and dedicating it to his dad.

Ultimately, Morales’ video attending the opening match with his father underscores a lesson that’s increasingly rare in influencer culture: Money can buy unforgettable experiences, but the greatest return often comes from sharing those experiences with the people who matter most.
