'We're gonna blow it up': Prosecutor boasts Trump's $600M White House ballroom will be leveled and made into souvenirs in coming years

He also said that, while Philadelphia’s President’s House memorial will remain intact, Trump’s long-desired ballroom will eventually be reduced to rubble, even as construction continues on it currently.

“In an official ceremony we’re going to blow it up and we’re going to get the taxpayers their money back by selling all the pieces as paperweights,” he said of the ballroom that could cost a reported $600 million. “I am guaranteeing you that not only will I have a piece of that blown up ballroom as a paperweight, you’re going to have a chance to have one too.”

The White House did not appreciate the comment, with spokesperson Davis Ingle telling Moneywise the executive residence “will be properly glorified and remain in excellent condition for generations to come. Only people who suffer from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome would find a problem with that.”

Former Trump criminal defense attorney-turned-Attorney General Todd Blanche called it “disgusting” that Krasner “is so focused on what the president is doing in the White House.” He added that Krasner’s comments reflect how divisive Democrats have made the ballroom.

The Philadelphia DA’s office didn’t return Moneywise’s request for comment.

Controversies at two presidential homes

Part of Krasner’s comments against Trump stem from the fact that his administration replaced a President’s House slavery exhibit with new panels that critics decry as “whitewashing” history.

Meanwhile, at the White House, Trump’s ballroom remains clouded in controversy.

Despite repeated White House claims that no taxpayer money is being spent on the ballroom project, the Washington Post reported that contractor estimates showed the project ballooning to $600 million from the previously-stated $400 million, with “more than half coming from taxpayers.”

“This is particularly outrageous because Donald Trump did lobby members of Congress to generously fund the ballroom and they declined to include it in their second reconciliation bill,” Cerin Lindgrensavage, the counsel for non-profit advocacy group Protect Democracy, told Moneywise in August.
