How and where to watch the 2026 World Cup

In February, more than 125 million people gathered around their TVs to watch the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots battle it out in Super Bowl LX. Those numbers are from the Sunday League to the World Cup organizers.

Soccer’s biggest tournament, running from June 11 to July 19, is a global event. During the 2022 World Cup, over 2.9 billion people watched at some point on linear TV (the numbers skyrocket higher when you add in streaming and social media).

This year’s World Cup will have plenty of stories to follow. For example, this will likely be the last year Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will vie for the FIFA World Cup trophy. The United States is co-hosting the events, but virtually no one expects them or their fellow host nations, Canada or Mexico, to win. And rising temperatures could be a big factor in the games and player health.

It’s a lot to remember, even for the most rabid soccer fans. Even if you’re just a casual fan of the sport, it’s a fascinating spectacle to watch. And, if that weren’t enough, select games, including the semi-finals, take place in the middle of the day, in the middle of the workweek, giving you a wonderful excuse to play hooky.

Sound exciting? Here’s all you’ll need to know:

When is the opening match in the 2026 World Cup?

The kick-off will take place at 3 p.m. ET on June 11 at Mexico City Stadium.

The host, Mexico, will face South Africa. Later that evening, South Korea will square off against Czechia at 10 p.m. ET.

Where can I watch the World Cup without cable?

You can watch some games without cable or streaming. Fox will carry the World Cup, as will Telemundo, both of which can be picked up via an over-the-air antenna, meaning you’ll be able to watch even if you don’t have a cable subscription.

To ensure you’re getting the most reliable signal, test the antenna in multiple locations in your home. However, you won’t be able to watch games on Fox Sports 1, which will carry many of the scheduled games for English audiences.

Where can I stream the 2026 World Cup?

Peacock

NBC’s service is the streaming home of the World Cup, carrying all 104 games with Spanish broadcasts. There will also be on-demand broadcasts of completed games. Keep in mind there’s no English broadcast alternative. To see the games in English, you’ll need to watch Fox or Fox Sports 1. You’ll pay an $8 or $14 monthly charge or $80 for an annual plan. The service has done away with its free trial.)

Disney+

Disney’s bundle of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ does not offer a free trial either, meaning you’ll need to pay $17 per month for all three combined (or $30 per month for no ads on Hulu and Disney+). Fox Sports 1 is available on Hulu, but only if you subscribe to the Hulu + Live TV plan

Hulu with Live TV

This service is reportedly ending, but it’s still accepting new members for the time being. Those newbies will need to pay $90 per month, with ads, or $100 per month without ads.

YouTubeTV

After a 21-day free trial, monthly charges of $83 will kick in.

Sling TV

Even though the seven-day trial on Sling is no more, Dish is still offering a day pass, giving you 24 hours of Live TV for $5. Sports fans can opt for the lower-tiered Orange plan, not to be confused with the Netherlands, which costs $46 per month. Adding the Blue plan, not to be confused with France, gives you more sports options, increasing the price to $61 per month.

DirecTV Stream

The streaming arm of DirecTV costs $50 per month and more after the free trial expires.

Fubo TV

Like Hulu, this standalone app is disappearing. For now, though, you can take advantage of a seven-day trial, after which you’ll be looking at monthly charges of $49 and up.

Where is the 2026 World Cup taking place?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The tournament spans 16 host cities. The U.S. centers are Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
