What kinds of feature / regular formats do you publish?
Our favorite formats are the listicle (“8 Ways to …,” “15 Tips for …,” etc.) and the straight article explaining a concept or a newsworthy development. But we welcome other types of content, including personal essays.
Should I submit a complete story or a proposal?
You may submit completed articles, or you may send proposals prior to writing and we can tell you whether we think your ideas are likely to resonate with our MoneyWise.com members.
How long should a proposal be?
You should supply a possible headline, because a good story always starts with a headline. How do you boil down your idea down to an engaging headline of 65 characters or less? Then, please supply a paragraph describing your concept. If you’re pitching a listicle, please provide at least four examples of points that will be part of your list. We’ll want to see that the points are in keeping with the headline and concept.
I've submitted a proposal – what do I do next?
Please hold on! We will try to review proposals promptly and give quick opinions.
I am a first-time writer – will my proposal be considered?
Yes, of course! We want to provide our MoneyWise members with a broad array of content from a variety of voices. We will be reviewing submissions for quality because, as you’ve no doubt noticed, we have standards and a reputation for high quality at MoneyWise.com.
How do I know if a story I’m pitching isn’t one that you have already covered somewhere?
This is something we’ll check for when we review proposals, and will it help inform our decisions on whether we think you’ve got an idea that our audience will enjoy.
Do you accept articles without accompanying photographs?
We do, but if you’ve got an article that’s written in the first person about your own personal experience, we strongly encourage you to submit some personal photos that we can use. Readers love reading about — and seeing — real people.
What do you look for in an article?
We want articles that are clear, well-organized, informative and accurate, and articles should be written in the style that our readers are familiar with: friendly, conversational and not boring. The best articles are on topics readers aren’t likely to have seen before (not the usual tired tips we’ve heard a million times), they make an emotional connection with readers, and they provide actionable information readers can use to make wise choices and get ahead — as we like to say.
What kind of articles DON'T you publish?
We are a personal finance publisher, so we want articles on topics that are relevant to our mission, including: investing; saving money; buying a home; dealing with debt; scoring credit card rewards; choosing a bank account; and the fun side of personal finance. We are not interested in stories that are not a good fit for us.
