Today is National Doughnut Day: Here’s where to get free doughnuts at locations across the country

Sure, you might have overindulged on Memorial Day, but if you're vowing to go on a diet, hold off for another day or two.

Friday, June 5 is National Doughnut Day, a celebration of the most wonderful of pastries. The first Friday of every June has held this particular honor since 1938, when The Salvation Army launched a fundraiser to help the needy and to honor the women who served doughnuts to the soldiers during World War I.

June 5, though, it's a great excuse to find some free food — and wear your stretchy pants.

Whether you prefer glazed, chocolate coated or stuffed with jelly, there are plenty of free doughnuts for the taking today. Here are some places you should check out if you’re on the hunt for free food and looking to get your Homer Simpson on.

Dunkin’

Get a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage in store or via the app. (Offer not valid on deliveries.)

If one isn't enough (and, really, it's not), buy one dozen and you can get another dozen glazed for $2.

Duck Doughnuts

Visit a Duck Doughnuts and you can grab a free cinnamon-sugar or other classic doughnut. No purchase required. A half-dozen of that same style will cost just $6 today, or if you want a mix that's slightly fancier, you can get six doughnuts for $8. Buy a dozen and you'll get a free rubber duck.
