The income a typical resident can expect to earn varies tremendously from state to state, leading to a totally different quality of life. The median household income in the wealthiest state, Maryland, almost doubles that of the poorest.
Nationwide, the poverty rate is 10.5% and the median household income is $68,703, the most recent census data shows — but the states on the bottom of this list don’t come anywhere close.
