Purchasing a car is a huge investment. You want to make sure you’re getting the best vehicle for your budget.

When you start looking for a new ride, it’s important to know what to avoid so you’re not wasting your time or money.

Consumer Reports does extensive testing and surveying to determine a car's reliability and longevity. After they’ve collected their data, they published a list of the least reliable cars, and another for the cars that have recently lost their recommendation due to a drop in reliability.

For the cars that lost their consumer rating, Consumer Reports asked their members about problems that they’d had with their vehicles in the past 12 months. They focused on 17 specific areas and requested detailed feedback to help them determine if the same issue was likely to occur across the product line.

For our lists, we referenced their expert scores and reviews to find important information you’ll need to know when looking for your next car. Scores, road test information and vehicle pricing are attributed to Consumer Reports. We will be identifying whether this is a new model that didn’t test well, or an older model that’s lost its ranking.

So, whether you’re in the market for a new model or looking at used cars, here are 21 unreliable cars that you can throw in the scrap heap in 2022.
